Greetings fellow Bizarros:
Is it me, or does it seem like there have been a lot of UFO
sightings recently. Just a couple days ago Great Britain was
invaded by an armada of mysterious orange lights in the sky.
They were seen as far away as Holland and no explanations
are forthcoming.
These strange clusters of orange lights have been baffling
onlookers across Britain. Witnesses have said the UFOs dart
in between one another in perfect formation. Plenty of cell
phone pictures were taken, precluding any lone crackpot
theories.
There are different explanations for the lights. An ex-
military official told the Daily Mail that the lights were
dropped by jets to simulate the path of a missile in order
to test radar systems. But a woman in Lincoln, England —
where some lights were spotted — said they were nothing
more than Chinese lanterns…several miles in the sky. No
one paid much attention to her.
Still others said the glowing orbs were an armada of in-
vading UFOs, a theory that elicits scoffs from some experts.
One man who saw the lights described them this way:
“They were traveling 15 at a time and every six minutes more
seemed to be coming over the horizon. They were not planes.
They were not balloons. Each one was the size of a building!”
The sightings even prompted military officials to check their
logs for aircraft activity. But an air force spokesman for a
nearby base said it was closed when the last activity was
sighted.
Bizarrely,
Lewis

——— Revelers set Smurf costume world record ———-
SWANSEA, Wales - A group of 2,510 people in Wales set a
world record by gathering at a nightclub while they were
all dressed as Smurfs. The participants, dressed as small
blue characters with white hats and pants, nearly doubled
the previous record during the event at the Oceana night-
club in Swansea, which was organized by the costume shop
Jokers’ Masquerade, The Daily Telegraph reported Tuesday.
Organizers said the event eclipsed a previous record of
1,253 people in Smurf costumes at a Castleblayney, Ireland,
event. “Smurf Guinness World Record holder has become an
illustrious title,” said Rebecca Oatley of Jokers’
Masquerade. “There have been five attempts over the last
18 months, with Swansea trumping Castleblayney’s 1,253
Smurfs recorded last year. We knew that if we were going
to break the record, we had to do it in style and 2,510
Smurfs will be a tough act to follow for any budding record-
breakers.” “This is just the beginning of our world record
run. We are hoping to set, break and smash Guinness World
Records for iconic characters from Daleks to Superheroes.
Watch this space.”
——- Kids play 36 hours of baseball for charity ——–
WRENTHAM, Mass. - An army of about 800 Massachusetts
youngsters kept a single baseball game going for 36 hours
to set a world record and collect money for charity. Jim
Lucas, a Wrentham T-ball coach who masterminded the event
that began at 8:01 a.m. Saturday, said the hundreds of
local kids between the ages of 5 and 15 who came out to
play 101 innings of baseball scored 687 runs for a final
score of 348-339, The Boston Globe reported Monday. The
current Guinness Book of World Records states the longest
game was played for 32 hours, 29 minutes between two men’s
St. Louis senior league teams in 2007. Lucas said his
players rotated in and out of the game for 36 hours. Lucas
said the event raised money for charities, including Curt’s
Pitch for ALS, the March of Dimes and the Wrentham Food
Bank. He said more than $40,000 had been raised before
the long game started and he expects the final total to
approach $75,000.

———– Couple, 93 and 89, wed in Florida ————-
PALM BEACH, Fla. - A 93-year-old Florida man married his
89-year-old sweetheart after a brief courtship that follow-
ed about 20 years of friendship, the man says. Ebenezer
Rose, 93, whose previous wife of 58 years, Bernice, died
about four years ago, said he met his new bride, Monica
Hayden, 89, about 20 years ago in church, the Palm Beach
(Fla.) Post reported Monday. “She had eyes on me all these
years,” he said of his bride, whose previous husbands are
both deceased. “By God’s grace, we’re here.” Rose said he
proposed to Hayden about six months ago and the couple tied
the knot Sunday at the Crowne Plaza hotel in Palm Beach.
“I told her, `Each of us is living a lonely life. Why not
get married?’” he recalled. The newly minted Mrs. Rose,
wearing white gloves, a beaded shawl and a glittering
tiara, said the ceremony was “beautiful.” “It was more
than I expected,” she said.
