Been a while since i gave an update on me and Tal's ARCA League racing. Not much of anything has changed since last update. I have been getting top 5 finishes, Talyn been wrecking out lol
But, last night it was Talladega on the schedule. Anything other than a 1-2 finish by me and Talyn would be a bad night. The night went sour for Talyn pretty quickly as he didn't finish, but I rolled on to lead 65 or so laps of the 75 lap race.
Me and Talyn qualified 1-2, with me taking the pole. Talyn griped about my start of the race, and fell back, but quickly got up to second. But then his luck changed. He overheated with running too much tape and too high of gearing in the car and came to pit road. He got a penalty for speeding, meaning he had to do a drive through pit road under green. The caution came out immediately, then after the caution he serverd his penalty. BUT..with his luck with this game and more especially with this league...it didn't register him as serving the penalty. So, he came down pit road again and server the drive thru....still didn't register as him serving it. So, screwed at this point, he just left.
After that caution it was me in front again until i let 2 cars go by because I was rather bored. With no draft help i went to the high side to pass them in turn 4. By the time we hit turn 4 the next time around I had completed the pass and was back to the lead...i knew then that nobody was going to pass me.
After 40 plus laps under green i came for fuel and right side tires under the green flag. I came in by myself since my drafting partner was out of the race. As I was exiting pit road the caution came out for a spin by someone getting onto pit road. I remained on the lead lap and was in 1st at the restart with 25 laps or so to go!
1 car wrecked under caution, nearly..i mean within inches..came from hitting me. I slammed on the brakes and barely missed the car. close call!
What was odd though was 2 cars got the same penalty that Talyn was given. They made their drive through and it cleared their penalty....so something doesn't add up there. Stinks of sabotage if you ask me.
The last 25 laps or so stayed green and I led them all as 2 cars continually kept trying to pass me on the outside, but they never manged it. The Paulaner beer ride was too much for em and I bring home a win and extend my points lead even further as my 2nd place challenger finished 4th or 5th.
Nobody really knows how far ahead I am in points with 2 races to go as nobody has updated the points on their site in weeks. But 2 more solid finishes will assure me of the league win.
Next up is the itty bitty Salem Speedway in Salem, Indiana. Home state track and I hope to do well there too. It's a tough one..so small and fast that it really does my head in racing it!
